Cabin View

Cabin View, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

The view here is breathtaking! We had a low-key day, went to the Comedy Barn, and now, Joe and I are about to watch Season 4 of the Gilmore Girls in the "movie room" of our cabin... (small room with wrap around couch and movie projector!!!)... it's really cool.

eating fritos on christmas day

eating fritos, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

This was taken yesterday... on Christmas Day. I was reading all about my new camera while Camden napped... and as soon as he got up, I was ready to try it out on him! (My mom and sisters were re-he-heally getting annoyed by me snapping photos of them for two hours straight... random photos of them, that were so horrible they could be used for blackmail some day...) So, once Camden got up, I started snapping photos of him... and this is him... on Christmas day... eating fritos. How sweet. Can't you just taste the salt on those little lips?

Well, we are here in Gatlinburg in our cabin. I haven't blogged about our trip, because I needed time to sit and get it all out. Yes... "it all" would mean that I have a story.

My mom, bless her heart, has been planning this trip since we returned from the mountains LAST Christmas. ...and when I say PLANNING, I mean PLANNING... the little lady is our family travel agent, complete with a little folder and email updates that read like travel commercials. So, of course, she booked some awesome little lodge for us to stay at at our "half-way" point.

...well that "awesome little lodge" turned out to be a lodge tucked away at the top of a mountain above the clouds. Yes, I mean the clouds... where it seems to be always foggy because you are IN THE CLOUDS, MAN! So, imagine, driving in the clouds (read: dense fog) in the DARK... in an unfamiliar place... well... that's just what we were doing... and we MISSED the lodge, and kept going... (we were following my dad)... So, we found what we thought was a safe place to turn around, and it ended up being NOT a safe place. My dad pulled in first, and as he tried to get his spiffy-shiny-black-city-Escalade around the corner, he somehow got stuck... we THOUGHT he was stuck, but he had actually run over a tree stump... so, the winds picked up, it had started to rain, and we were sitting at the top of a mountain where you couldn't see ten feet in front of you and my dad's Escalade had basically DIED... so...

My dad and Joe were outside trying to figure what we were going to do, my sisters both came over to my car in hysterics, so I called 911, and told them what had happened, and to see if there was anyone that could come get us because the driving conditions were just not feasable. I got disconnected from 911, we ended up leaving my mom and sisters, driving my dad back to the lodge as carefully as we could, checked in, unloaded OUR car in the lobby, and found some mountain boys with a big truck that could escort Joe and my dad back up the mountain to get my mom and sisters, and then Joe and my dad stayed with the Escalade until the tow-truck got there...

We ended up renting a car... and the Escalade is at a Cadallac dealer in Georgia getting fixed... and we continued our trip....

Since all of THIS... it has been GREAT!!!!!! Christmas Day was awesome, we all had an excellent time. We went shopping today.... and will do some more tomorrow...

Not much CREATIVE TIME lately... besides taking photos... which I'm having a lot of fun with that with my new camera.... and although I don't want the trip to end, I have an AWESOME new sewing machine to try out when I get home, too! ... so... more from our "Mountain Adventures" soon!

Hope EVERYONE is enjoying the holidays!

Trip has begun...

Our Christmas trip has begun... we've had much difficulty getting started... but have finally made it to our cabin, and we are in the process of getting settled.  The "full" story to come... Happy Holidays everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On the road again...

We are currently on our way to Panama City for one night to celebrate my brother-in-law's birthday. Camden in snuggled in his carseat watching Finding Nemo (yes for the millionth time). Joe is driving while delightfully annoying me with his "word game" -- he will look around us, and whatever word he sees, he will either incorporate it into our conversation, or he will sing a song about it...... EXAMPLE: a car tag said kings2, so, he changed the words around from "We Three Kings" to "2 kings" ... And there was a pilot gas truck -- and he said "You know my Pop was a pilot for 30 years?" ... Random and annoying, yes. Funny, sometimes... But overall, ignored!!

Free Hugs!

No photo for this post. However, I would like to tell a story.Yesterday, I took Camden to Publix. Oh, we had a few things to get, but a few things turned into a lot more. Camden has been insisting on "walking" instead of riding. Specifically yesterday, he wanted to "push" the cart. So, I stood in the regular-spot and pushed the cart, as he walked beneath me pushing the cart from a lower angle. Each time we would stop for something, he would want to hold it so that HE could be the one to place it in the cart. I allowed him to-- excepting the things that couldn't be "tossed" like the eggs. He spotted this older woman in the aisle with us, and walked up to her saying "Hug, Hug, Hug, Hug", and she was like- ooh, you want to give me a hug? So Camden hugged her... it was too sweet. Then, he started making a kissing sound.... wanting to give her a kiss... and so she bent down and he kissed her on the cheek. NOW, I know what you are all thinking-- that is some strange woman and what the heck, why did I allow this? ... but she was an old woman, with a dress and a shawl and was all hunched over-- so I was sure that he was safe, and I stood right there, ready to chase her if she tried to grab him and run. LOL! --But, I just thought it was so sweet. Out of all of the people in Publix, he saw this woman, and felt like she needed a hug. It was great!-- ...and it reminds me of the guy with the "Free Hugs" sign that I saw on Oprah.... LOL :) Here is a link to the "Free Hugs" campaign... just in case you have never seen the story...

All is Calm, All is Bright

Hopefully by now your Holidays are underway!
Here are a few tips to keep your holidays CALM AND BRIGHT!

Calm:
Holiday "Stressing"? - VOW to yourself to set aside time each night to
shop, or wrap, or plan. No more Holiday stressing... no more last
minute gifts... Examine your lists that we made earlier in the
month... are you finished shopping? Online shopping will start to get
stressful, as you will have to wait for the item to ship... so unless
you are paying top dollar for overnight or express shipping, I would
advise to do no more Online shopping!!! Give yourself a check on all
handmade items-- do you have everything done? This weekend, you
should finish up everything... :)

Bright:
Christmas Cards-- Save the envelopes from all of the Christmas cards
you get in the mail. Keep a few extras of YOUR cards on hand, and if
you happen to get a card from someone whom you didn't send to, right
then and there, address it and drop it in the mail next time you are
out. Save the envelope so that you can transfer their name into your
address book for next year. This is a great way to stay on top of
your holiday card-exchanges and ensure that you stay in touch!

Happy Holidays!

Tonight's Project

Embroidery on Pillow, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

...a memory pillow for Joe's Brother, Camden's Uncle Dan! The tan square on the bottom right is Camden's handprint, and the upper square has ribbon detail. I added a lot of button embellishments, it came out great! :) I just love the blue and brown color combos!

Pink Pincushion!

New Pincushion
Originally uploaded by SunnyNole.
I included the other pincushion that I made in a sewing-themed holiday package for a friend... so... of course, I had to make me another... I really LOVE this style of pincushion!

Lots of "work" on the brain... too many projects to mention!

My weekend of sewing did give me a jumpstart, but I fear it sort of made me a little 'burnt out'... It is Wednesday and I have not sewed much of anything this week.

I DID make bookcovers for both of my sisters for their birthday! ... and I DO have a birthday project underway for my brother in law...

But Christmas? ... Let's just say I'm AHEAD of the game... but NOT YET FINISHED!

Custom Order... On it's way to Texas!

Worked on a custom order of book covers this evening... all evening! I am tired, and I have failed to clean up my mess-- the sewing room is a mess again... but it's nine o' clock and I need to take my bath and get ready to relax! :)

Check back tomorrow for my mid-week installment of "Calm and Bright".

Cheers everyone!

Haiku Monday!

Joe wrote this one this morning:

he's dropped off at school
his dad wishes he could stay
who would pay the bills?

(...what a great hubby and father, eh!)

And these were mine:

Meeting today and
Meeting tomorrow and then
More meetings all week

and

Chicken for dinner
And a veggie too
Dad, do the laundry

Wireless Posting

I just love having the ability to post from anywhere ... As long as I have my phone... I am connected. Like now-- NOWHERE NEAR a computer... And here I am. :)

Pincushion

Pincushion
Originally uploaded by SunnyNole.
Just whipped this up. Got tired of organizing the sewing room and didn't want to get into a big project, because that would mean that I would have to finish it before I go to bed... and tomorrow is work... so... this. I've wanted one for awhile. Finally just made one. I admit, I had to use wood glue instead of fabric adhesive... but it worked :)

Getting ready to watch Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. I'm SO tired after this weekend of sewing! :)

I DID get a few things done, though... but... still... there is more on my list... more to be done... AND a busy work week next week...

I'm SOOOO looking forward to the Winter Break from school!

All is Calm and Bright - 22 days until Christmas!

22 Days!
Calm-- The weekend is slowly fading. You have been shopping all weekend. Perhaps decorating your house for Christmas, and your yard... now it's time to take some time for yourself this evening, and focus on your feet. I suggest Shea it isn't So foot cream by Bath and Body works! This is an awesome foot cream-- your feet deserve some attention after you've been on them all day at the mall! If you don't have this on hand, any type of foot cream will do. Extra points are awarded for MINTY foot cream...
Bright-- Planning ahead makes everything easier, and keeps that bright smile on your face. So, today, sit down and look at your calendar. Holiday parties coming up? Add a bottle of wine to your grocery list so you'll be prepared! Start thinking about your outfit. Are you giving handmade gifts this season? Refer back to your list that we made earlier in the week. Make sure that you are being realistic with your output. Is it really possible for you to get all of those handmade gifts done and still enjoy your holidays? Consider who in your family would appreciate the handmade gifts, and focus on them! Try to get all of your Christmas SHOPPING done by the end of this week (December 7th). Consider a shopping marathon (one day devoted to all of your gifts)... or shopping sprints (lunch hour and an hour or two after work). This will ensure that you get everything done before the mad rush begins. Up for the challenge?!

Handmade Holiday Weekend Work 12/02/2007

Well I had a productive weekend... I made six book covers, three heat-therapy bags, a boo-boo buddy and a freezer lavendar eye pillow. Just what I needed to kick off my handmade holidays-- with more focus now that I have items crossed "off" my list! I'm very excited about that! I have sibling birthdays coming up, and a few of these items will be for that... and I have one sponge-bob idea in the works for Joe's brother's birthday, which is in December also! (Have I mentioned that on top of Christmas, ALL OF OUR SIBLINGS have their birthday in December!!!???) ... so ... I've been a busy busy person this weekend.

I didn't declare it publicly, but Joe and Camden were out of town this weekend so that I could get all of this done. They are now on their way back... so... I'm wrapping up the sewing room and I'm going to get back in Mama-Wife groove... (which means I really need to take a shower, get out of my PJs, and get something cooking for my boys!!!) ...

All is Calm, All is Bright - Month of December

Please join me in the month of December for my new series "All is calm, all is bright". We want to be calm and bright this holiday season, don't we?! Consider this your online class for December... a survival-guide for the holidays.

Now... it's close to Midnight on December 1st! Here is your to-do list for this weekend!

(This list assumes that you have been living on a far-away planet and you have no idea that it is now DECEMBER and you have 24 days until CHRISTMAS DAY!)

Crucial!

1. Get your decorations up and out!

2. Make a list of those that you need to buy for this holiday season!

3. If you are making gifts, make a master list of all that you plan to make this holiday season!

4. Mull over your lists... and consider your holiday season "officially" kicked off!!

(save your lists... we will refer back to them...)

Here We Go!
Stay Tuned!

Oh... and did I mention, It's DECEMBER FIRST!

Happy Holidays!!!!

Embellished Burp Cloth

Embellished Burp Cloth, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

For a friend. I had a lot of fun with this. Camden uses these burp cloths still... as a cuddle rag. I didn't embellish his... and he refuses to use anything but the soft white cloth. I wish I would have taken the time to embellish his, though, they are so cute. :)

Mermaid Print

I am so excited because I just ordered another print from French Toast Girl. It will go in my bathroom, that is painted a mermaid-tail aqua color, and I'm soo super excited about it! :0)

Posting from the Road

Well... we have successfully been to Joe's family for thanksgiving, made half of thanksgiving dinner, enjoyed a lovely thanksgiving with them-- and then moved on to spend the latter part of the weekend with my family--... at the family reunion.

We ventured out on our trip this morning at 10am, factoring in the time-change... we were set to arrive at 3:00... and we DIDN'T take into account that Joe's Nana would ask him to help out with the Christmas decorations. And we didn't take into account that Joe's family lives near the mall, and of course, it was black friday--- and so... we were late. We were planning on getting our car serviced while we were here, since there is a dealership here in the same town as our family reunion... and we arrived at the Lexus dealership and had to leave... because Camden was throwing the biggest fit EVER ... which caused ME and JOE to get all uptight... and argumentative... and frustrated... and so, we left, and rescheduled for the morning, when Joe will go by himself to get the car serviced.

Camden did NOT have his nap, even though we were in the car for FIVE HOURS... he decided to fall asleep FIVE MINUTES before we got to the hotel.

We are now in the hotel. We stay on the "food floor"... the executive suite that has a little kitchen that is always stocked with coke products, juice, milk, fruit, coffee, tea, and BEN AND JERRYS!!!!!!! Yes... we are in heaven... after our car-trip from HELL. :) I will be taking some photos tomorrow. :)

Hope everyone is having a LOVELY Thanksgiving!

Pattern Give-Away

Ok... in the spirit of giving, I'd like to give a sewing pattern (or two) to two lucky winners. This time, you must do a little something to get your patterns! First, tell me what you would like to make, and sizing, style, etc. THEN, I need your help! I am giving a lot of handmade bags away for the holidays... many are going to be personally made for specific people. Tell me what I should "stuff" them with... because no one wants an empty bag! :) I will award sewing patterns to those ideas that I like the BEST :)! ...and if you are not a sew-er, but want to still give me your ideas on what to stuff my tote bags with... you are welcome to! ...and we are getting ready to go see family! :) Hope everyone has a Happy Thanksgiving!
______________Edited Later____________________
Omly asked if they were all going to women... and the answer is yes, at least for this time around! I do have plans for bags for men, but at a later time. :)

Gift-Away Update!

Thanks to all who entered! MARIA is the winner! :) Camden drew her name and then took off around the corner with the post it note in his mouth... so I had to pry it out of his mouth, and through the slobber could still read the name... 'maria'. Congrats! Thanks to everyone...and we'll do another give-away sometime soon. :)

Tiki's Christmas Outfit

Tiki's Christmas Outfit, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

Christmas outfit for Joe's Mom's dog, Tiki. She is NOT a weiner dog, but this is the only dog I could get out of Camden's room for modeling purposes. She will look MUCH cuter in it! :) :) :)

Story Time Cushions for Camden's Classroom

This isn't a very exiting photo... but I post it because I have a story behind these cushions.

Camden got into a FIGHT at school on Friday. The little girl literally kicked the crap out of my little tough man~! She scratched him behind the ear, on the neck, and on the hand. He looked like he had gotten into a battle with a cheetah! So... I asked the teacher what on earth were they fighting about?! She replied: Well, we only have two storytime cushions and they both wanted the blue one. Hmmmm... Shouldn't ALL of the kids have their very OWN cushion for storytime? Yes. They. Should. So! I made THREE cushions this weekend.
(The pink is not shown, as my sewing machine was acting up by the time I got to that one... and I stopped for a bit, but will sew up the hole soon, so they will be ready for delivery by Daddy on Monday.)

I have some cool SpongeBob fabric and I plan to make smaller ones for the children if the teacher likes the large ones.... :) We will see! :)

Who knew there were this many patterns to choose from for DOGS?! We don't have dogs, but there are a lot of dogs in our family...and family members who adore their dogs. :)

Running Team~!

1. Kacy has joined me in my quest to run-- and she has asked her neighborhood friend Katrina.

2. Burb-Mama, aka Average Jane Crafter has been doing this and is already on week two!

3. Anyone else joining me? :)

No picture.

No picture for you today. I've lost my camera charger, dang-it! ... Can't find it anywhere ... and haven't had the time to REALLY LOOK, either. My house is clean, which is strange for a Wednesday-- this is the day that it usually begins going downhill for the weekend. But, it has stayed pretty clean. I thank Chili's for that, as Joe had two back-to-back games last night so Camden and I met my sisters at Chili's-- where we had the NICEST SWEETEST little southern waitress. She was just SO NICE-- and funny, too. We left her a nice tip. It was because of that one night out, though, that I'm sure my house has stayed clean. That, and I've had more energy.

More energy? Yes! Why? Because! I started RUNNING! ... sounds crazy if you're not an exercise kind of person... but really, I started Monday night. Tuesday night, I had 'off', and tonight, Joe had a game at 7.45, so I had to hurry and clean up the kitchen so I could get my run in before he left for his game. Nice. I'm so happy that I did it even though my legs have been ACHING ever since Monday. I asked Sarah, who is the science teacher on my team, and also a fitness instructor, from which I used to take classes, pre-baby and pre-husband, ANYWAY, I asked her about my legs and why they hurt SO. Badly. She said that's good and the best thing I can do is go run tonight! So. I. Did. Pretty proud of it too! ...and I fully contribute all of my extra energy to THE. RUN-NANG. JEN-NAY!

On a side note, Camden has not adjusted to the time change. Either that, or he's being really clingly lately. He does not want to go to bed at 7 when it's time. Tonight, he went down at normal time, and I was not home 10 minutes before he was crying and carrying on. So, I went in, and he asked for more milk in his bottle, so I got him up and went into the kitchen to get that, him in one hand, milk in the other. Joe was going to try to put him down, but he didn't want to, he kept saying 'rock, rock, rock'... yes... he wanted me to rock him. (Which is what he did last night too.)... so, I did. And we talked and laughed, and I ended up crying because I can't believe how BIG!! HE IS GETTING!!! I started to get tear-y when he was babbling on, but what really caused the river was the silliest thing: He said "book", and I said: "Did Daddy read to you tonight?"... he said "Yes." I said "Did you read your new book 'No, David'?" ... He said "Yes." and then proceeded to TRY and tell me the PLOT of the story. He said (In his baby-talk way); "David Mess", and I said "yes, baby, David made a mess"... and then he said "David Run"... and I said "yes, baby, David ran out of the house naked"... and I said "Did David have to go to time out?"... he said "Yes. David broke" , I said "yes, baby, David broke his momma's vase." ... and so it went.

And so, no, I didn't marvel at the awesomeness of his connections.

I didn't puff my chest out and say how proud I was that he was so smart.

I sat there and cried.

Because he is growing up.

And I still can't find my camera charger.

And my legs really do hurt now, after day two.

boohoo.

Podcasts for Running

So, I found a new Podcast for Running... and it's called "Podcasts for Running". It incorporates the couch to 5K plan in nine-weeks. I heard about the concept on the Hip Tranquil Chick forums, did a search, found the podcast, and downloaded it today. I thought about starting it tomorrow, but then, I thought... well, there's no time like NOW! So... after Camden went to bed tonight, I got into some running gear and went out into the neighborhood. It was great! The best part about it? I could DO it! So... who's joining me? Go Subscribe to get them all.

Halloween- Playing Cranium :)
Originally uploaded by SunnyNole.
This is us. On Halloween. After Camden went to bed. Joe is taking the photo. The girls were over at our house for Camden's second Halloween. It was supposed to be a celebration, but ended up being a fit-fest, so we put him to bed. They went home to get out of their costumes (yes, costumes... hehe)... and into their PJs-- and to grab Cranium-- which is probably one of the most fun board games that we've ever played! :)

So... as you can see... me and Leslie (the one to the right of me) - washed our make up off, put our hair up and TRULY got comfortable. (T-shirt and PJ pants... no bra... mosturizer on, giving us that "glow"....)... and Christina (the one one the left of me) CHEATED. She always does. She has her make up on... her hair is still fixed cute... and so, once again, she is the PRETTY one in the photo. I swear she does this on purpose... LOL!

It's awesome having sisters-- and yet sometimes things are SO hard. My two sisters currently live with each other-- and so one is always coming over -- mad at the other. We never know which one will be showing up, but it's usually Leslie. Leslie and I lived together for a short while when she was just moving up for college and I was a first-year teacher. Living situations like that are tough! These two still fight, but they seem to be doing pretty good.

They are good about babysitting from time to time when we need it.... like a random night that we want to go out to dinner (which isn't very often, but at least we CAN sometimes...)... and the random day when Camden's daycare is closed on a random day that both Joe and I have to work-- (what's up with THAT?!!?!?!?)... They are always willing to pitch in to help with Camden.

They are still very young-- both in college-- but both are aspiring to be teachers-- and all I can tell them is CHANGE YOUR MAJOR~!!!!!!!

We have many, many sister stories. Maybe I should do a sister-story podcast. That would be a good one. We have lots of juicy crazyness that has happened. Yes. We. Do.

New Jacket

New Jacket, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

Camden, modeling his new jacket for winter. He wore it for a few seconds and then started yelling "help, help, help!"... I look at this picture, and I see the little boy from the movie A Christmas Story. How hilarious! :)

*********

It's been a lazy day, I went out with some friends after work yesterday, and didn't get in until late. Joe let me sleep until almost noon... and then Camden napped from 1-3, and I attempted to watch a movie on the couch, but ended up napping, too. It's now 6pm, and I'm about to clean the house and get caught up on a few projects that have been in the back of my mind this week.

Are you participating in the "Handmade Holidays" from Sew, Mama, Sew? I'm TRYING to... it's day three, so I have three things to make to get caught up. I've got my apron cut and ready to sew, but it's for an apron swap. I've been thinking that would be a good gift for my sister, too... she enjoys that sort of thing. I may skip the pincushion, although I would really like one for myself. :)

Sick kid, busted lip, and halloween. Happy Freaking Halloween Everyone! :)

Camden was sick this Halloween. He has been sick since Monday afternoon-- so our Halloween consisted of eating dinner, putting on a costume for ten minutes just to take a picture, and then putting the little one to BED.

Here he is earlier -- eating toast while lounging in his newly-claimed chair, otherwise known as "the blue chair" to all of my family. Camden has "claimed" "the blue chair" these past few days. It has been a long few days at home with him... from fever and puking to ear aches and coughs, who knows what he has... I feel like he's OK to go to school tomorrow, and hopefully we can make it to the weekend.

Most of you arlready know this, but caring for a sick child is. so. freaking. exausting! I have just had two days off of work and I feel like I've worked harder than if I had actually gone to work. A mom never has an "off" day in my opinion! Luckily, he went to bed at a decent hour this evening. Last night he was up late. Did I mention he busted my lip last night? Yes. He. Did. With the remote control, or "mote" as he calls it. He thought he'd be funny and smack me in the face with it. How. Nice. JUST the way I treat someone who has been caring for my sick ass for the last few days. Glad that he is still young enough to not REALLY understand yet. :)

Me & My Boy

Camden 009

Dear Camden,
My heart breaks when you don't feel well. I try to do everything I can to make you feel better, but mostly you want to nap. I hate daycare because you always get sick. Usually when things are going great at my job, I don't mind sending you to daycare. It is easy to rationalize in my head why it's "good" for you to be sociable.... but when things are particularly rough for me, it's very hard to send to you to school each day, knowing that by the time we pay daycare and for my gas to and from work, I'm really working for hardly nothing-- teachers don't make that much, you see... so it hardly seems worth it.

But then, after a spout of sadness and "cuteness" while you are sick, you almost always nap, giving me a few moments to myself... and when you wake up, you are a holy terror. Ready to romp and run and jump and scream and play. And I stare at you in all your glory and wonder -- why the hell did daycare call me today? They could have just given you a nap and you would have been fine.... put you in the quiet room for about three hours, and you'd wake up and run and jump and play like you were training for arena football. Strong and tough, loud and joyous.

And then your daddy comes home and you turn into a totally different child.... a whiny ball of snot is what you are -- and he tries to get you to calm down, and you cry when he walks out of the room, and you play with your food just to make him mad, and you scream and cry in the bathtub-- all for your daddy.

And I love you for it. You are the perfect child... one that will get sick on the EXACT days that I am having a hard day at work and need to leave... and then you'll come home and take a long nap... and then wake up and run around like you are fine, only to come down from your high just as your daddy is getting home, and you go into that whiney-no-one-can-make-me-happy-state. Yes. Jussst Perrrrrfect.

I love my little boy!!!!!!!!!!

Clean Eating?

So, now that I've been asked to get off my butt and cook more, I have made more trips to the grocery store... and LOOK! They now have Dunkin' Donuts coffee at my local grocery store... which just happens to be Publix. Hey everybody, I love Publix. I love their bakery, their deli, their magazine section, I love that they employ mentally challenged folks, and have a heart for those needing a 'future'... , I love everything about it. Publix is a good place and I will always give them my business. Even though their prices are higher, you GET what you PAY for! Really!

I was more than thrilled when my local grocer started carring Starbucks coffee. I bought it. I made some espresso drinks. Lattes. But Starbucks is my treat. Dunkin Donuts was my addiction. ...and NO, I did not eat their doughnuts... it was their COFFEE!!! It was A. MAE. ZING. ! I could get an XL Coffee w/ cream and sugar for 1.85 that would last me all morning... up until lunch time at least... and they have those wonderful earth-friendly styrofoam cups that kept the coffee hot until noon!

But then. The DD in my area. CLOSED. And a Starbucks opened up across the street. Great coffee. But. Not. The. Same.

My mom was buying me these make-it-at-home bags of DD coffee sold at HER DD in Fort Lauderdale. .... she would bring it up when she saw us, and stock us up... (us meaning my sisters and I)...

and now... she no longer has to, because I can have a steaming cup of DD's anytime I want... and every morning in fact! ...

So, I was reading this magazine about clean and healthy eating and they recommended NO COFFEE. Yeah, right. That's certainly the diet I want to stick to.

Pumpkin Patch Visit

Pumpkin Patch 2007 025, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

We visited the pumpkin patch today. My little one was BEYOND done with photos... wouldn't even look at me and say "cheese"... in fact, he was dodging the camera most of the time. But... the colors at the patch were beautiful. LOVE those pumpkin patch photos! :)

Can you pick up camden? I have to get stuff for team day tomorrow, and I'm still at school coordinating stuff. I'm a little overwhelmed at the moment.

--

Podcasting is making me NUTS!

Ok... So, I've Podcasted Episode 14, but I'm not going to post this VERSION of Episode 14-- not only did I not like the outcome... but I think it was the worst show yet. So... hopefully I'll get a chance to RE-RECORD Episode 14.

Tonight, lots to do. Had a field trip today, and a team day tomorrow. I'm baking blueberry muffins for my class, and I had to shop for 80 hotdogs, buns and condiments tonight, too. Plus, I had to COOK for my FAMILY as PROMISED... I almost tried to skip tonight, but I didn't. On top of that, my whole family is in a bad MOOD! Booh! Hopefully we'll get out of it soon.

Ok, I'm off to CLEAN and listen to the new episode of the CMP-- it's certainly much better than mine this week...

And while I'm talking about Podcasts, here are a few that you should be listening to:
Hip Tranquil Chick
Creative Mom
Cast On
Manic Mommies
The Big Boo Cast

*****Regardless of your hobbies and interests, all of these podcasts are sure to tickle your fancy. So.. leave me a comment, what are your favorite podcasts?

Mealtime Dilemmas

This is a true story.

My husband is an honest man. We had a long discussion about family responsiblities and he shared with me that he was a little displeased with our meals as of late... well... has been for the past 18 months. (Read: Since Camden was born, I have not been cooking anything but frozen chicken and veggies... a lot of eating out... and total lack of preparation.) He is right. My meals have sucked. Partly because I wanted us to eat very healthy-- partly because I was being lazy. The "healthy" eating was a cop-out, I know... I can certainly cook more extravagant, yet "healthy" meals. So... I took his constructive criticism, and told him I could work on that... but that in return, he would have to take over all of the laundry. He agreed. YIPPIE!!!!!!!! I am SO incredibly happy! The laundry has always been a daunting and overwhelming task for me. So... no MORE! ...and I will have more time to focus on planning, shopping and preparing GREAT meals for my family. So... out with the laundry, in with the cook books!

To celebrate, I'm positing this AMAZING RECIPE for Egg Salad... from Taste of Home magazine: I made this for Sunday Lunch, and then made a big Sunday Dinner. Thought you all would enjoy this ... it was great.... Who doesn't love a great Croissant?!

Bacon Egg Salad Croissants

"A great way to jazz up an old favorite" is how Julee Wallberg describes the swift sandwiches that she creates in Reno, Nevada. The creamy filling gets a taste boost from bacon and plenty of crunch from diced celery.

INGREDIENTS
1/3 cup diced celery
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
6 hard-cooked eggs, chopped
1/3 cup crumbled cooked bacon
4 lettuce leaves
4 thin tomato slices
4 croissant, split

SERVINGS 4
DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, combine the celery, mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper. Stir in eggs and bacon. Place a lettuce leaf, tomato slice and 1/2 cup egg salad on each croissant. Yield: 4 servings.

Sewing... more sewing!

I sewed another custom book cover this evening. This one is for Omly, too. She sent me the fabric and I added the embellishments. I love the quote on this ribbon and love how it goes so perfectly with reading... as reading can take you anywhere! ... and begins with a single step (picking up the darn book!)... right now I have this stretched across a hardback library book that I checked out today (for photo op only!) called "Restless Virgins"... recommended by the Manic Mommies... they interviewed the author and it's all about a prep-school and true stories about teenagers that grew up there. Interesting so far... AND I have to say, I love my fabric book cover design in hardback (large) size.... so I have to make me one! :) AND many of you have been asking... yes, I CAN do bible covers... just send me an email (SunnyNole@gmail.com) and I'll ask a few questions about dimensions. :)

A Question of Commentary

So... when someone uses the following phrase, how do you feel/ and / what does it make you think of?
Scenario: You turn something in late. The person asks you why, then says "Well it looks to me like... and I just have to ask myself "why" did you turn it in late?"... blah blah blah.

Basically, when someone uses the phrase "I just have to ask myself why"... is it a question of your own integrity?

Barber Shop Faces
Originally uploaded by SunnyNole.
Just returned from a weekend out of town. A lot to say, but my back is aching from sewing, and its a little after nine and I really wanted to watch the new episode of Cold Case. I'm tired. But, I wanted to post this photo... we took Camden for a haircut this weekend at an old-fashioned barber shop... An older woman gave him a nice little boy haircut... but I just love this face. So cute :) Not sure what's going on with my camera... it's taking grainy photos lately, but still, this face...

Shabby Chic Snuggli Scarf

Shabby Chic Snuggli Scarf 003, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

I made this scarf tonight for my MIL for her birthday. I used the kid's scarf tutorial from sew, mama, sew!, and just modified the sizing to fit an adult. She has red hair so I'm sure this color scheme will look great for winter. The floral print is a soft warm flannel. It feels sooo good against your neck!!! It was just what I needed while watching "Dancing with the Stars" tonight. The perfect project to get me back into the "sewing" mood, too! Now, I gotta go clean up!!! LOL!

Fall Means the Holidays are C O M I N G!!!!

Snow Days!, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

Fall means the holidays are coming! And. They. Are.
This was us, many years ago, before marriage, before Camden. Me, my mom, my two sisters and Joe.

And the reason I bring this up is because there is a chill in the air in the morning, and it's beginning to feel like the holidays are just around the corner. I'm super excited!

...and so is my MOM... bless her heart. She cracks me the hell up, too. Here's an email that we got from her... yesterday....

Disclaimer: I have not added anything to this email to make it better. She REALLY writes this way. To us. And yes, we laugh at her.

Hello Everyone!

I have been busy this weekend making our plans for our CHRISTMAS VACATION!!

Here goes:

As Leslie and Christina will come home after their exams, they will be home a week before we leave. On late afternoon, Friday, December 21st, Dad, Mom, Leslie and Christina will drive to (CITY)and spend the night. On Saturday, December 22nd, Joe, Jessica and Camden will arrive at Grandma Hawthorne's house as early as possible so we can start out on our 6 hour drive to Chatsworth, GA where we will stay one night in a 3 bedroom cabin at the following:

http://www.cohuttalodge.com/

The next morning we will get up and have a southern style breakfast at the lodge (check out the breakfast on the website under restaurant). Room check out is around 11:00AM. We will then embark on our journey to our cabin in Tennessee, which will take approximately 3 hours.

As you can see, the big travel day will be on Saturday, but Sunday will not be so bad. I will bring our walkie talkies so that we can talk to each other from car to car. We need to start as early as possible on Saturday as the lodge is on top of a "small" mountain in Georgia.

Our cabin rental is from Sunday, December 23rd - checking out on Saturday morning, December 29th. Our cabin is on Cove Mountain Road off Hwy. 441 between Pigon Forge and Gatlinburg. It's close to the very first cabin that we stayed in years ago (the A-frame on King Branch Road), only it's on the other side of the road.

For Christmas Day, (Santa will certainly visit on Christmas Eve) and we plan to have Christmas dinner at the Apple Barn (reservations will be made). I am looking into the possibility of an afternoon hayride sometime during the week.

We will have a wonderful time and Dad and I are looking forward to spending Christmas with all of you!

95 days and counting down.

Love,

Dad and Mom

And my reply?
Dear Mom,
This is hilarious. If your bank job gets any more hectic, I'm sure you'd excel at becoming a travel brochure writer. What, with things like "embark on our journey"... and "southern style breakfast"... and all the references? Wow. We can't wait! :)
Love,
J.

Recap of today:
Work. More Work. Testing tomorrow. Lots of birthdays coming up for nearby family. Out of town this weekend. Next, mom and dad will be visiting. Spent the evening working on a special project for mom's birthday. Tomorrow night, I'm getting out the sewing machine for the other birthday projects. We've got Joe's mom, my mom, and Joe's Pop all at once. I have a few ideas in mind and hope I can get some things cranked out tomorrow.

Also mulling over my next podcast. I'm going to be interviewing "Talulah". More to come.

Cool Mornings Lately... :)

Sunset. Sept. 15th.
Originally uploaded by SunnyNole.
Cool mornings lately, and I love it. It makes me want to get up early enough to enjoy a cup of coffee on the porch before I have to scramble around to get my day started. I'd love to enjoy a few moments in my PJ's with Camden, but that's just not possible. I HAVE to be dressed by the time I wake him up, or I won't be able to concentrate on getting dressed. BUT, I will figure out a way to get the coffee on and enjoy some outside on the porch before I have to wake him up. Maybe. Hopefully. He's been waking up each morning to the sound of me filling the coffee pot up. He is such a light sleeper by morning.

So, the other night, Joe and I sat and took photos of ourselves. Totally outrageously crazy silly photos. I was in my "Life is Good Peanut Butter and Jelly" shirt, except mine is yellow... and I had on my favorite pink paisley PJ pants. Joe was in his PJ's too. We both had red lips from the Crystal Light Fruit punch packets that we used in our water bottles. (That stuff is delicious... tastes like the old fashioned red kool-aid!) We had so much fun though, and the photos came out hilarious. But... I don't think I'll be posting them. I know, I'm boring, aren't I?

Well, it's 8.26 and I'm off to find something on TV. I need some downtime. :) Working on knitting a scarf from some beautiful yarn that I (hopefully) will finish by winter :).
