The view here is breathtaking! We had a low-key day, went to the Comedy Barn, and now, Joe and I are about to watch Season 4 of the Gilmore Girls in the "movie room" of our cabin... (small room with wrap around couch and movie projector!!!)... it's really cool.
More photos to come!!!!

This was taken yesterday... on Christmas Day. I was reading all about my new camera while Camden napped... and as soon as he got up, I was ready to try it out on him! (My mom and sisters were re-he-heally getting annoyed by me snapping photos of them for two hours straight... random photos of them, that were so horrible they could be used for blackmail some day...) So, once Camden got up, I started snapping photos of him... and this is him... on Christmas day... eating fritos. How sweet. Can't you just taste the salt on those little lips?
Well, we are here in Gatlinburg in our cabin. I haven't blogged about our trip, because I needed time to sit and get it all out. Yes... "it all" would mean that I have a story.
My mom, bless her heart, has been planning this trip since we returned from the mountains LAST Christmas. ...and when I say PLANNING, I mean PLANNING... the little lady is our family travel agent, complete with a little folder and email updates that read like travel commercials. So, of course, she booked some awesome little lodge for us to stay at at our "half-way" point.
...well that "awesome little lodge" turned out to be a lodge tucked away at the top of a mountain above the clouds. Yes, I mean the clouds... where it seems to be always foggy because you are IN THE CLOUDS, MAN! So, imagine, driving in the clouds (read: dense fog) in the DARK... in an unfamiliar place... well... that's just what we were doing... and we MISSED the lodge, and kept going... (we were following my dad)... So, we found what we thought was a safe place to turn around, and it ended up being NOT a safe place. My dad pulled in first, and as he tried to get his spiffy-shiny-black-city-Escalade around the corner, he somehow got stuck... we THOUGHT he was stuck, but he had actually run over a tree stump... so, the winds picked up, it had started to rain, and we were sitting at the top of a mountain where you couldn't see ten feet in front of you and my dad's Escalade had basically DIED... so...
My dad and Joe were outside trying to figure what we were going to do, my sisters both came over to my car in hysterics, so I called 911, and told them what had happened, and to see if there was anyone that could come get us because the driving conditions were just not feasable. I got disconnected from 911, we ended up leaving my mom and sisters, driving my dad back to the lodge as carefully as we could, checked in, unloaded OUR car in the lobby, and found some mountain boys with a big truck that could escort Joe and my dad back up the mountain to get my mom and sisters, and then Joe and my dad stayed with the Escalade until the tow-truck got there...
We ended up renting a car... and the Escalade is at a Cadallac dealer in Georgia getting fixed... and we continued our trip....
Since all of THIS... it has been GREAT!!!!!! Christmas Day was awesome, we all had an excellent time. We went shopping today.... and will do some more tomorrow...
Not much CREATIVE TIME lately... besides taking photos... which I'm having a lot of fun with that with my new camera.... and although I don't want the trip to end, I have an AWESOME new sewing machine to try out when I get home, too! ... so... more from our "Mountain Adventures" soon!
Hope EVERYONE is enjoying the holidays!

Here are a few tips to keep your holidays CALM AND BRIGHT!
Holiday "Stressing"? - VOW to yourself to set aside time each night to
shop, or wrap, or plan. No more Holiday stressing... no more last
minute gifts... Examine your lists that we made earlier in the
month... are you finished shopping? Online shopping will start to get
stressful, as you will have to wait for the item to ship... so unless
you are paying top dollar for overnight or express shipping, I would
advise to do no more Online shopping!!! Give yourself a check on all
handmade items-- do you have everything done? This weekend, you
should finish up everything... :)
Christmas Cards-- Save the envelopes from all of the Christmas cards
you get in the mail. Keep a few extras of YOUR cards on hand, and if
you happen to get a card from someone whom you didn't send to, right
then and there, address it and drop it in the mail next time you are
out. Save the envelope so that you can transfer their name into your
address book for next year. This is a great way to stay on top of
your holiday card-exchanges and ensure that you stay in touch!

...a memory pillow for Joe's Brother, Camden's Uncle Dan! The tan square on the bottom right is Camden's handprint, and the upper square has ribbon detail. I added a lot of button embellishments, it came out great! :) I just love the blue and brown color combos!

Lots of "work" on the brain... too many projects to mention!
My weekend of sewing did give me a jumpstart, but I fear it sort of made me a little 'burnt out'... It is Wednesday and I have not sewed much of anything this week.
I DID make bookcovers for both of my sisters for their birthday! ... and I DO have a birthday project underway for my brother in law...
But Christmas? ... Let's just say I'm AHEAD of the game... but NOT YET FINISHED!
Worked on a custom order of book covers this evening... all evening! I am tired, and I have failed to clean up my mess-- the sewing room is a mess again... but it's nine o' clock and I need to take my bath and get ready to relax! :)
Check back tomorrow for my mid-week installment of "Calm and Bright".

Getting ready to watch Desperate Housewives and Brothers and Sisters. I'm SO tired after this weekend of sewing! :)
I DID get a few things done, though... but... still... there is more on my list... more to be done... AND a busy work week next week...
I'm SOOOO looking forward to the Winter Break from school!
Well I had a productive weekend... I made six book covers, three heat-therapy bags, a boo-boo buddy and a freezer lavendar eye pillow. Just what I needed to kick off my handmade holidays-- with more focus now that I have items crossed "off" my list! I'm very excited about that! I have sibling birthdays coming up, and a few of these items will be for that... and I have one sponge-bob idea in the works for Joe's brother's birthday, which is in December also! (Have I mentioned that on top of Christmas, ALL OF OUR SIBLINGS have their birthday in December!!!???) ... so ... I've been a busy busy person this weekend.
I didn't declare it publicly, but Joe and Camden were out of town this weekend so that I could get all of this done. They are now on their way back... so... I'm wrapping up the sewing room and I'm going to get back in Mama-Wife groove... (which means I really need to take a shower, get out of my PJs, and get something cooking for my boys!!!) ...

For a friend. I had a lot of fun with this. Camden uses these burp cloths still... as a cuddle rag. I didn't embellish his... and he refuses to use anything but the soft white cloth. I wish I would have taken the time to embellish his, though, they are so cute. :)

Friday, November 23, 2007
We ventured out on our trip this morning at 10am, factoring in the time-change... we were set to arrive at 3:00... and we DIDN'T take into account that Joe's Nana would ask him to help out with the Christmas decorations. And we didn't take into account that Joe's family lives near the mall, and of course, it was black friday--- and so... we were late. We were planning on getting our car serviced while we were here, since there is a dealership here in the same town as our family reunion... and we arrived at the Lexus dealership and had to leave... because Camden was throwing the biggest fit EVER ... which caused ME and JOE to get all uptight... and argumentative... and frustrated... and so, we left, and rescheduled for the morning, when Joe will go by himself to get the car serviced.
Camden did NOT have his nap, even though we were in the car for FIVE HOURS... he decided to fall asleep FIVE MINUTES before we got to the hotel.
We are now in the hotel. We stay on the "food floor"... the executive suite that has a little kitchen that is always stocked with coke products, juice, milk, fruit, coffee, tea, and BEN AND JERRYS!!!!!!! Yes... we are in heaven... after our car-trip from HELL. :) I will be taking some photos tomorrow. :)
Hope everyone is having a LOVELY Thanksgiving!

This isn't a very exiting photo... but I post it because I have a story behind these cushions.
Camden got into a FIGHT at school on Friday. The little girl literally kicked the crap out of my little tough man~! She scratched him behind the ear, on the neck, and on the hand. He looked like he had gotten into a battle with a cheetah! So... I asked the teacher what on earth were they fighting about?! She replied: Well, we only have two storytime cushions and they both wanted the blue one. Hmmmm... Shouldn't ALL of the kids have their very OWN cushion for storytime? Yes. They. Should. So! I made THREE cushions this weekend.
(The pink is not shown, as my sewing machine was acting up by the time I got to that one... and I stopped for a bit, but will sew up the hole soon, so they will be ready for delivery by Daddy on Monday.)
I have some cool SpongeBob fabric and I plan to make smaller ones for the children if the teacher likes the large ones.... :) We will see! :)

...but this, taken by my sister.... HAD to be shared today.
Happy Veterans Day!

More energy? Yes! Why? Because! I started RUNNING! ... sounds crazy if you're not an exercise kind of person... but really, I started Monday night. Tuesday night, I had 'off', and tonight, Joe had a game at 7.45, so I had to hurry and clean up the kitchen so I could get my run in before he left for his game. Nice. I'm so happy that I did it even though my legs have been ACHING ever since Monday. I asked Sarah, who is the science teacher on my team, and also a fitness instructor, from which I used to take classes, pre-baby and pre-husband, ANYWAY, I asked her about my legs and why they hurt SO. Badly. She said that's good and the best thing I can do is go run tonight! So. I. Did. Pretty proud of it too! ...and I fully contribute all of my extra energy to THE. RUN-NANG. JEN-NAY!
On a side note, Camden has not adjusted to the time change. Either that, or he's being really clingly lately. He does not want to go to bed at 7 when it's time. Tonight, he went down at normal time, and I was not home 10 minutes before he was crying and carrying on. So, I went in, and he asked for more milk in his bottle, so I got him up and went into the kitchen to get that, him in one hand, milk in the other. Joe was going to try to put him down, but he didn't want to, he kept saying 'rock, rock, rock'... yes... he wanted me to rock him. (Which is what he did last night too.)... so, I did. And we talked and laughed, and I ended up crying because I can't believe how BIG!! HE IS GETTING!!! I started to get tear-y when he was babbling on, but what really caused the river was the silliest thing: He said "book", and I said: "Did Daddy read to you tonight?"... he said "Yes." I said "Did you read your new book 'No, David'?" ... He said "Yes." and then proceeded to TRY and tell me the PLOT of the story. He said (In his baby-talk way); "David Mess", and I said "yes, baby, David made a mess"... and then he said "David Run"... and I said "yes, baby, David ran out of the house naked"... and I said "Did David have to go to time out?"... he said "Yes. David broke" , I said "yes, baby, David broke his momma's vase." ... and so it went.
And so, no, I didn't marvel at the awesomeness of his connections.
I didn't puff my chest out and say how proud I was that he was so smart.
I sat there and cried.
Because he is growing up.
And I still can't find my camera charger.
And my legs really do hurt now, after day two.

Mary-- are you in?

So... as you can see... me and Leslie (the one to the right of me) - washed our make up off, put our hair up and TRULY got comfortable. (T-shirt and PJ pants... no bra... mosturizer on, giving us that "glow"....)... and Christina (the one one the left of me) CHEATED. She always does. She has her make up on... her hair is still fixed cute... and so, once again, she is the PRETTY one in the photo. I swear she does this on purpose... LOL!
It's awesome having sisters-- and yet sometimes things are SO hard. My two sisters currently live with each other-- and so one is always coming over -- mad at the other. We never know which one will be showing up, but it's usually Leslie. Leslie and I lived together for a short while when she was just moving up for college and I was a first-year teacher. Living situations like that are tough! These two still fight, but they seem to be doing pretty good.
They are good about babysitting from time to time when we need it.... like a random night that we want to go out to dinner (which isn't very often, but at least we CAN sometimes...)... and the random day when Camden's daycare is closed on a random day that both Joe and I have to work-- (what's up with THAT?!!?!?!?)... They are always willing to pitch in to help with Camden.
They are still very young-- both in college-- but both are aspiring to be teachers-- and all I can tell them is CHANGE YOUR MAJOR~!!!!!!!
We have many, many sister stories. Maybe I should do a sister-story podcast. That would be a good one. We have lots of juicy crazyness that has happened. Yes. We. Do.

Camden, modeling his new jacket for winter. He wore it for a few seconds and then started yelling "help, help, help!"... I look at this picture, and I see the little boy from the movie A Christmas Story. How hilarious! :)
It's been a lazy day, I went out with some friends after work yesterday, and didn't get in until late. Joe let me sleep until almost noon... and then Camden napped from 1-3, and I attempted to watch a movie on the couch, but ended up napping, too. It's now 6pm, and I'm about to clean the house and get caught up on a few projects that have been in the back of my mind this week.
Are you participating in the "Handmade Holidays" from Sew, Mama, Sew? I'm TRYING to... it's day three, so I have three things to make to get caught up. I've got my apron cut and ready to sew, but it's for an apron swap. I've been thinking that would be a good gift for my sister, too... she enjoys that sort of thing. I may skip the pincushion, although I would really like one for myself. :)

Camden was sick this Halloween. He has been sick since Monday afternoon-- so our Halloween consisted of eating dinner, putting on a costume for ten minutes just to take a picture, and then putting the little one to BED.
Here he is earlier -- eating toast while lounging in his newly-claimed chair, otherwise known as "the blue chair" to all of my family. Camden has "claimed" "the blue chair" these past few days. It has been a long few days at home with him... from fever and puking to ear aches and coughs, who knows what he has... I feel like he's OK to go to school tomorrow, and hopefully we can make it to the weekend.
Most of you arlready know this, but caring for a sick child is. so. freaking. exausting! I have just had two days off of work and I feel like I've worked harder than if I had actually gone to work. A mom never has an "off" day in my opinion! Luckily, he went to bed at a decent hour this evening. Last night he was up late. Did I mention he busted my lip last night? Yes. He. Did. With the remote control, or "mote" as he calls it. He thought he'd be funny and smack me in the face with it. How. Nice. JUST the way I treat someone who has been caring for my sick ass for the last few days. Glad that he is still young enough to not REALLY understand yet. :)

My heart breaks when you don't feel well. I try to do everything I can to make you feel better, but mostly you want to nap. I hate daycare because you always get sick. Usually when things are going great at my job, I don't mind sending you to daycare. It is easy to rationalize in my head why it's "good" for you to be sociable.... but when things are particularly rough for me, it's very hard to send to you to school each day, knowing that by the time we pay daycare and for my gas to and from work, I'm really working for hardly nothing-- teachers don't make that much, you see... so it hardly seems worth it.
But then, after a spout of sadness and "cuteness" while you are sick, you almost always nap, giving me a few moments to myself... and when you wake up, you are a holy terror. Ready to romp and run and jump and scream and play. And I stare at you in all your glory and wonder -- why the hell did daycare call me today? They could have just given you a nap and you would have been fine.... put you in the quiet room for about three hours, and you'd wake up and run and jump and play like you were training for arena football. Strong and tough, loud and joyous.
And then your daddy comes home and you turn into a totally different child.... a whiny ball of snot is what you are -- and he tries to get you to calm down, and you cry when he walks out of the room, and you play with your food just to make him mad, and you scream and cry in the bathtub-- all for your daddy.
And I love you for it. You are the perfect child... one that will get sick on the EXACT days that I am having a hard day at work and need to leave... and then you'll come home and take a long nap... and then wake up and run around like you are fine, only to come down from your high just as your daddy is getting home, and you go into that whiney-no-one-can-make-me-happy-state. Yes. Jussst Perrrrrfect.
I love my little boy!!!!!!!!!!

I was more than thrilled when my local grocer started carring Starbucks coffee. I bought it. I made some espresso drinks. Lattes. But Starbucks is my treat. Dunkin Donuts was my addiction. ...and NO, I did not eat their doughnuts... it was their COFFEE!!! It was A. MAE. ZING. ! I could get an XL Coffee w/ cream and sugar for 1.85 that would last me all morning... up until lunch time at least... and they have those wonderful earth-friendly styrofoam cups that kept the coffee hot until noon!
But then. The DD in my area. CLOSED. And a Starbucks opened up across the street. Great coffee. But. Not. The. Same.
My mom was buying me these make-it-at-home bags of DD coffee sold at HER DD in Fort Lauderdale. .... she would bring it up when she saw us, and stock us up... (us meaning my sisters and I)...
and now... she no longer has to, because I can have a steaming cup of DD's anytime I want... and every morning in fact! ...
So, I was reading this magazine about clean and healthy eating and they recommended NO COFFEE. Yeah, right. That's certainly the diet I want to stick to.

We visited the pumpkin patch today. My little one was BEYOND done with photos... wouldn't even look at me and say "cheese"... in fact, he was dodging the camera most of the time. But... the colors at the patch were beautiful. LOVE those pumpkin patch photos! :)

Can you pick up camden? I have to get stuff for team day tomorrow, and I'm still at school coordinating stuff. I'm a little overwhelmed at the moment.
Tonight, lots to do. Had a field trip today, and a team day tomorrow. I'm baking blueberry muffins for my class, and I had to shop for 80 hotdogs, buns and condiments tonight, too. Plus, I had to COOK for my FAMILY as PROMISED... I almost tried to skip tonight, but I didn't. On top of that, my whole family is in a bad MOOD! Booh! Hopefully we'll get out of it soon.
Ok, I'm off to CLEAN and listen to the new episode of the CMP-- it's certainly much better than mine this week...
And while I'm talking about Podcasts, here are a few that you should be listening to:
Hip Tranquil Chick
The Big Boo Cast
*****Regardless of your hobbies and interests, all of these podcasts are sure to tickle your fancy. So.. leave me a comment, what are your favorite podcasts?

My husband is an honest man. We had a long discussion about family responsiblities and he shared with me that he was a little displeased with our meals as of late... well... has been for the past 18 months. (Read: Since Camden was born, I have not been cooking anything but frozen chicken and veggies... a lot of eating out... and total lack of preparation.) He is right. My meals have sucked. Partly because I wanted us to eat very healthy-- partly because I was being lazy. The "healthy" eating was a cop-out, I know... I can certainly cook more extravagant, yet "healthy" meals. So... I took his constructive criticism, and told him I could work on that... but that in return, he would have to take over all of the laundry. He agreed. YIPPIE!!!!!!!! I am SO incredibly happy! The laundry has always been a daunting and overwhelming task for me. So... no MORE! ...and I will have more time to focus on planning, shopping and preparing GREAT meals for my family. So... out with the laundry, in with the cook books!
To celebrate, I'm positing this AMAZING RECIPE for Egg Salad... from Taste of Home magazine: I made this for Sunday Lunch, and then made a big Sunday Dinner. Thought you all would enjoy this ... it was great.... Who doesn't love a great Croissant?!
Bacon Egg Salad Croissants
"A great way to jazz up an old favorite" is how Julee Wallberg describes the swift sandwiches that she creates in Reno, Nevada. The creamy filling gets a taste boost from bacon and plenty of crunch from diced celery.
1/3 cup diced celery
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 teaspoon prepared mustard
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
6 hard-cooked eggs, chopped
1/3 cup crumbled cooked bacon
4 lettuce leaves
4 thin tomato slices
4 croissant, split
In a large bowl, combine the celery, mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper. Stir in eggs and bacon. Place a lettuce leaf, tomato slice and 1/2 cup egg salad on each croissant. Yield: 4 servings.

I sewed another custom book cover this evening. This one is for Omly, too. She sent me the fabric and I added the embellishments. I love the quote on this ribbon and love how it goes so perfectly with reading... as reading can take you anywhere! ... and begins with a single step (picking up the darn book!)... right now I have this stretched across a hardback library book that I checked out today (for photo op only!) called "Restless Virgins"... recommended by the Manic Mommies... they interviewed the author and it's all about a prep-school and true stories about teenagers that grew up there. Interesting so far... AND I have to say, I love my fabric book cover design in hardback (large) size.... so I have to make me one! :) AND many of you have been asking... yes, I CAN do bible covers... just send me an email (SunnyNole@gmail.com) and I'll ask a few questions about dimensions. :)

Scenario: You turn something in late. The person asks you why, then says "Well it looks to me like... and I just have to ask myself "why" did you turn it in late?"... blah blah blah.
Basically, when someone uses the phrase "I just have to ask myself why"... is it a question of your own integrity?

I made this scarf tonight for my MIL for her birthday. I used the kid's scarf tutorial from sew, mama, sew!, and just modified the sizing to fit an adult. She has red hair so I'm sure this color scheme will look great for winter. The floral print is a soft warm flannel. It feels sooo good against your neck!!! It was just what I needed while watching "Dancing with the Stars" tonight. The perfect project to get me back into the "sewing" mood, too! Now, I gotta go clean up!!! LOL!

Fall means the holidays are coming! And. They. Are.
This was us, many years ago, before marriage, before Camden. Me, my mom, my two sisters and Joe.
And the reason I bring this up is because there is a chill in the air in the morning, and it's beginning to feel like the holidays are just around the corner. I'm super excited!
...and so is my MOM... bless her heart. She cracks me the hell up, too. Here's an email that we got from her... yesterday....
Disclaimer: I have not added anything to this email to make it better. She REALLY writes this way. To us. And yes, we laugh at her.
Email sent to: Me, My 2 Sisters, My husband, My dad.
I have been busy this weekend making our plans for our CHRISTMAS VACATION!!
As Leslie and Christina will come home after their exams, they will be home a week before we leave. On late afternoon, Friday, December 21st, Dad, Mom, Leslie and Christina will drive to (CITY)and spend the night. On Saturday, December 22nd, Joe, Jessica and Camden will arrive at Grandma Hawthorne's house as early as possible so we can start out on our 6 hour drive to Chatsworth, GA where we will stay one night in a 3 bedroom cabin at the following:
The next morning we will get up and have a southern style breakfast at the lodge (check out the breakfast on the website under restaurant). Room check out is around 11:00AM. We will then embark on our journey to our cabin in Tennessee, which will take approximately 3 hours.
As you can see, the big travel day will be on Saturday, but Sunday will not be so bad. I will bring our walkie talkies so that we can talk to each other from car to car. We need to start as early as possible on Saturday as the lodge is on top of a "small" mountain in Georgia.
Our cabin rental is from Sunday, December 23rd - checking out on Saturday morning, December 29th. Our cabin is on Cove Mountain Road off Hwy. 441 between Pigon Forge and Gatlinburg. It's close to the very first cabin that we stayed in years ago (the A-frame on King Branch Road), only it's on the other side of the road.
For Christmas Day, (Santa will certainly visit on Christmas Eve) and we plan to have Christmas dinner at the Apple Barn (reservations will be made). I am looking into the possibility of an afternoon hayride sometime during the week.
We will have a wonderful time and Dad and I are looking forward to spending Christmas with all of you!
95 days and counting down.

And my reply?
This is hilarious. If your bank job gets any more hectic, I'm sure you'd excel at becoming a travel brochure writer. What, with things like "embark on our journey"... and "southern style breakfast"... and all the references? Wow. We can't wait! :)
Thanks for the laughs.
And that's what it's all about.
Recap of today:
Work. More Work. Testing tomorrow. Lots of birthdays coming up for nearby family. Out of town this weekend. Next, mom and dad will be visiting. Spent the evening working on a special project for mom's birthday. Tomorrow night, I'm getting out the sewing machine for the other birthday projects. We've got Joe's mom, my mom, and Joe's Pop all at once. I have a few ideas in mind and hope I can get some things cranked out tomorrow.
Also mulling over my next podcast. I'm going to be interviewing "Talulah". More to come.

Disclaimer: There was no alcohol involved in the creation of this photo. We act like this normally. Thank you.
We saw this rainbow yesterday evening on the way to a party. It was over the pond, and of course Joe stopped and said "well get out and take a picture!"... I was so happy that I had my camera. It was a complete rainbow, completely visable. Unfortunately, I couldn't get far back enough to get the whole thing, but this certainly was a cool shot. :)

So, the other night, Joe and I sat and took photos of ourselves. Totally outrageously crazy silly photos. I was in my "Life is Good Peanut Butter and Jelly" shirt, except mine is yellow... and I had on my favorite pink paisley PJ pants. Joe was in his PJ's too. We both had red lips from the Crystal Light Fruit punch packets that we used in our water bottles. (That stuff is delicious... tastes like the old fashioned red kool-aid!) We had so much fun though, and the photos came out hilarious. But... I don't think I'll be posting them. I know, I'm boring, aren't I?
Well, it's 8.26 and I'm off to find something on TV. I need some downtime. :) Working on knitting a scarf from some beautiful yarn that I (hopefully) will finish by winter :).
