"Walking In This World" Artist Trading Card

This ATC was made for the "Walking In This World" study group... I can't post where I'm sending it to... it's secret right now. I can say that it's going *ahem*...international. :)

Illustration Friday: "RED" : 99 Red Balloons

Illustration Friday's prompt for last week was "Red". As soon as I read the prompt, I wondered what I would illustrate. There are so many "red" things that I love. I thought and pondered all the while, humming "99 Red Balloons" in my head. I meant to get to the Illustration Friday prompt on Saturday morning, but I took Camden to the park and we hung out most of the morning, and then I began scrapbooking on Saturday afternoon and got so absorbed in that I didn't even take out my Moleskine. So, here I sit, Sunday night, and I'm STILL humming "99 Red Balloons"... reminds me of the Gilmore Girls episode where Lorelai has a flashback to when she is in the hosptial waiting to have Rory. She is sitting in the hospital with her walkman on and "99 Red Balloons" is playing. So after all of this ran though my head, I figured what they "hay". I illustrated Red Balloons. Now there certainly are not 99 of them but I tried to show that there were a bunch floating in. I also included they lyrics to the ending... which I love. This was done in ink, and watercolor pencil. Nothing special, just simple and it was fun!
Lyrics:
Ninety-nine dreams I have had
And every one a red balloon
It's all over, and I'm standing pretty
In the dust that was a city
I could find a souvenir
Just to prove the world was here
Here it is, a red balloon
I think of you and let it go

Photo Friday Submission: "Brother"

This is my husband and his brother, Daniel-- who is very special to us. Daniel is super excited to be an Uncle and even changed his name to "Uncle DAN" instead of "Daniel"... This photo was taken with a canon rebel and converted to black and white. Most of the background was blurred and the faces were sharpened with photoshop. This photo sits on our ledge, in an 8x10 frame and it's one of my favorite photos of the two of them. They were outside playing catch and this was taken just before we all went inside.

Like Magic!

CMP Magic Prompt, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

This week, Camden stood up and walked...... and it was MAGICAL!!!!! So I took the Magic theme of the week for the Creative Mom Podcast and made this page... "Like Magic" ...you stood up and walked. Journaling reads: The first time you took a few steps we were thrilled! You took one step here, two steps there, and then you stood up and walked across the room... like magic!

Nana Upstairs & Nana Downstairs

In case you can't read the journaling on this one: My favorite childhood book makes a comeback to our home! My Grandmother sent me this book for my birthday. She used to read it to me when I was a little girl. As soon as I opened the package, I immediately remembered the book, even though it has been probably 20+ years since I've seen it! That night, I read the story to my son. He really enjoyed it... and I forgot how SAD the ending was. I will cherish the book, and I had to do a sketch and watercolor in my Moleskine! (drawn with Micron ink 05 and prismacolor watercolor pencils)

Lily in Watercolor

I picked up some watercolor pencils at the Art Supply Store today. I had been wanting watercolor pencils for so long and I finally made a special trip today to get them. I was excited to enter an art store where everyone in there shared a common interest. It was like surreal. There were people browsing the display case of Moleskine journals, people looking at pens and asking to try out different colors. Women in paint splattered smocks and frizzy locks tied up with scarves roamed the aisles, sipping their Starbucks and looking at all of the new beautiful displays of art supplies. Old men, young men, young women and old women alike were there-- looking at canvas, sketchbook, watercolor, photography, etc. It was amazing.

So, here's Lily in Color! She was only my second attempt at doing watercolor... so I have a bit to learn... :)

Creature Sketch Mosaic

Creature Sketch Mosaic, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

Here is a little mosaic of my creature sketches from last night. I have been doing "Walking in this world" by Julia Cameron and the amount of creative work that I've produced is amazing myself.

So, what is special about these drawings and why did I choose to showcase them in a mosaic? Well, the truth is, I didn't want to put them ALL on my blog-- such large files taking up space, but I couldn't decide which one I wanted to use, so I thought the mosaic would be a great way to showcase them all and use less space.

The other special thing is I'm excited because my drawings are actually starting to LOOK like what I'm attempting to draw! I've not quite got the "3-D" thing yet but I've sort of figured out shading, etc. I'm pretty proud of these drawings! They are not perfect, but they are good for me! :)

Walking for One Week!

I've completed week one of WITW by Julia Cameron.
...and a busy and creative week it has been. Here's a line up of what I've accomplished this week on my creative journey:
1. I completed the Valentines Cards, see previous post!
2. I made my own version of a Wee Wonderful
3. I sewed the borders on a quilt top and have big plans to finish it soon!
4. I completed the CMP prompt of the week "Color My World"
5. I completed the Illustration Friday prompt of the week "Super Hero"
6. I did my "morning journaling" four out of the seven days this week.
7. I took some beautiful close up shots of my flowers and the fall leaves in our neighborhood.
8. I took myself on an "Artists Date" as suggested by my WITW study group, I went to the fabric store and was VERY inspired! :)
9. I did some random sketches in my moleskine, some good, some not so good... but drawing is therapy, so whether or not the end result is fab or drab, it's the process that soothes my soul!
10. I (of course) took some wonderful photos of my little one and did some digital scrapbooking!
Wow... ten things! So, if you're impressed by this list, maybe YOU should check out Walking In This World by Julia Cameron and see if it changes your life!
**Author's note: I work full time as a teacher and have an eleven month old son... so although ten very creative things were accomplished this week, the laundry has piled up and my husband cooked last night and did most of the cleaning this week. Thank goodness for him!

The Valentines Cards are Finished!

The Valentines Cards are finally finished! This has been on my to do list for so long. I took the photos of Camden and made the card in Photoshop in early January. Then, I sat down and made a few cards, and then got distracted. My idea of adding the ribbon and tag was awesome but I didn't realize how time consuming it would be. So I figured I'd do it in spurts... only I never went back to it. With it being almost the end of January, I figured I'd better finish it and it was on my to-do list this weekend! I have completed all eighteen cards... and they are ready to be mailed! However, I will wait a bit to mail them, so they will arrive right around Valentines day.
My next card making adventure? Camden's 1st Birthday invites! I've been mulling over what photo to use for this-- I've tried to get a cute photo of him holding up a "#1" but he is not really cooperative right now. I'm thinking of using the cute Camo photos that I took of him, I recently downloaded some cool "army" digital scrapbooking fonts and would love to use them. My husband and I brainstormed a cool opening line for the card... we were thinking "Forward March!... on over to Camden's 1st Birthday Party." If anyone has any other ideas they'd like to share, be sure to leave me a comment. The Camo birthday card would leave us having a "camo" themed birthday party-- because I'm the type of person that likes every thing to match! My mom came up with some cool ideas and found the themed plates and stuff, but if I go with that I'm going to have to get a good photo of Camden for the invite... so basically I'm running out of time and need to make up my mind! Any suggestions? This is so jumbled, I know!!! :) It's how my mind works, though!

My Roses!

My Roses!, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

My husband and I had pink and white roses at our wedding so in an effort to keep white and pink roses year round, I have purchased a pot of white roses and a pot of pink roses. You can't tell from the pictures but they are "mini" roses. :) I really love this spread of photos.

Beautiful Leaf Colors

Beautiful Leaf Colors, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

I love it when the leaves change color. They changed color awhile ago and are slowly changing back... we're seeing green again but also beautiful reds-- the reds are fading as the greens creep back up. This is a series of photos that show the reds off, but the greens are present, too. Love it!

My Quilt Needs Quilting

I made this quilt awhile back but didn't have the borders sewn on. So, I sewed the borders on and it's ready to be quilted. I just have to make time to get it sandwiched and in the quilting frame. Each time I go to the fabric store or see a new pattern online or in a magazine, I get a new idea for a quilt. Well, I really need to finish this one before I buy any more fabric or come up with any other ideas! I have fabric in my stash for gift quilts that I "planned" on making people, and never got around to it. This year, I'm bound and determined to finish what I start. Thanks to my "Walking In This World" study group (link to the right), and the Creative Mom Podcast, I'm off to an AWESOMELY CREATIVE 2007! How exciting, huh!

Wee Wonderful -- Pinky

Wee Wonderful -- Pinky, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

Although not made with the pattern, this is sort of a Wee Wonderful. Here's the thing: my printer is not hooked up and my husband still has not hooked it up -- so I couldn't print out the pattern. I was DYYYYING to make a Wee Wonderful, and decided TODAY was the day. I dug out some old fabric and began. Here's what I came up with just by viewing the pieces online and the pattern. A little different, but still fun. I think she needs more to her outfit, but for now this will do. I've gotta get some pink ribbon!

Our back patio is a retreat dedicated to my favorite place... the beach. You don't often see daffodils at the beach (at least I never have)-- but the beautiful yellow flowers go with our color scheme! We bought the pot that had not bloomed yet and waited for it to bloom. It must have bloomed last night because this morning I noticed them! :)

Acrylic Leaf Prints in Moleskine

Yesterday morning as I was leaving for work I noticed a beautiful shaped leaf in our driveway and instantly thought of using it to make prints in my moleskine. I scooped it up and put it next to the door so that I would remember when I got home... and I did. I did this last night after the baby had gone to bed. I used a gold colored acrylic paint and then a mixture of reds and browns-- sort of a fall spread. I guess it's a little late though! :)

The Finished Valentines Cards!

The Finished Valentines Cards!, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

I chose to stamp the corner with a heart shaped punch and add a tag with the personal message tied with a red ribbon. My new year's card was mounted on cardstock so I wanted to change this one up a bit.

Sister: My Photo Friday Submission

Sister, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

I took this photo of my sister with her foot propped up in the car-- we were on our way to the mall in Fort Lauderdale, and we just happened to pass a flower stand on the corner of Pine Island Road and I-595. I didn't intentionally get the floral stand, but when I saw that I had captured it, I knew I had a gem! My sister will appreciate the beautiful photo and of course that her toes are painted PINK!

It is so like this sister to be part of such a perfect shot. This wouldn't have happened to anyone else! She NEVER takes a "bad" photo... she's so photogenic. Even her feet! :)
