Owlie & His Flock!

Owlie 010, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

...owlie and his flock are done... and on their way to Ohio! The fabric birdies will be perched on several limbs that have been threaded together as a mobile for a wee one's room. I'm hoping to make one of these for Ella's Secret Garden Nursery after the first of the year. :)

We think we see Santa!

We think we see Santa!, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

...or maybe it's Camden being a distraction!!! LOL.

I took pictures of Sheena's little girls today for their Christmas card. They were so incredibly cute in their little red dresses. Sheena's mom lives right next door to us so it was very easy for me to run over during Ella's nap and take pictures! Camden and I even brought over the little rocking chair for them to sit in. The rocking chair was a gift from Uncle Dan, it was his when he was a little boy. Camden loves to rock in it. And I thought it would be a perfect backdrop for a Christmas picture :).

Sweet Toes Custom Order Beth

SweetToesCustomOrderBeth 006, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

I completed this custom order at naptime today for two pairs of sweet toes, one in pink and one in purple. They are for an itty bitty baby, even smaller than Ella... so this pair still fit my little model, but were a bit snug, so they should be perfect for the recipient. My favorite part? The little button hearts sewn on the side, and the starburst stitching along the top that mocks the starburst floral pattern in the fabric. Love. It. Thanks, Beth!!!

Sunnynole's Nest - the Etsy shop redesign.

Here I go again! I have gotten a few custom orders lately, and I thought that (well, in my mind, because of that...) I needed to step my shop design up a bit. So, Connie has been hard at work on my re-design. I changed my shop name to Sunnynole's Nest because I thought it incorporated a bit more of what I do here. A shop for moms, babies and the home. I love the design and the name, it's so perfectly fitting. On a more personal note, the "nest" comes from the bit of time that we had to stay back in the hospital after I was released to go home because of Ella's heart. She's all better now, but that nest illustration that they placed on our door has stuck with me. It's in my craft closet now, awaiting a frame. There is a larger meaning beyond the proverbial nest. It is comfort, it is nurturing, it is home. When a mama (or mama bird) is "nesting", they are preparing their home for baby. So, perfect name for my shop, a shop with items for moms, babies and the home.

Only, I haven't been able to come up with a tagline. My husband and I have been trying to decide on one for weeks now and it has not come to us. So, I'm asking for your help! Leave a comment with your suggestions for my tagline. The winner will get a little surprise in the mail.

Thanks!!!

Cuddle Bug.

Cuddle Bug., originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

I took Ella to get her ears pierced today. She did very well with it and looks so adoreable. I chose pink stones for the earrings, as her whole wardrobe is practically all pink, and it was just fitting. She's my girlie girl already.

I heard Ella laugh really hard for the first time today. It was a low gurgling belly laugh, and so completely adoreable. I was touching my nose to her nose while saying "ahhh-boo" over and over again to her... and she was JUST laughing her head off. It was SO cute. She's ticklish too, I found that out the other night while changing her clothes. I called my mom to let her hear the cute little laugh, and of course she stopped. She certainly has made it clear that she isn't everyone's circus monkey!

I've been enjoying how nice Camden is to her. He hugs her and holds her and talks to her. And she's totally enthralled by him. Whenever he is in her sight, her eyes light up and she smiles. He can soothe her just about as well as I can. She calms down when he begins talking to her. It's amazing.

And he's so funny about trying to soothe her if she's getting fussy. He hasn't realized yet that sometimes babies are just fussy when they are tired. So he will repeat "It's okay Ella, don't cry" over and over to her, or he'll start singing "Jesus Loves Me", which is what he did everytime she started crying during our car trip to Fort Lauderdale. I love that about him. He might be a handful, and he might not always listen, and he might get on my last NERVE a lot of the time, but he's a really loving little boy, and he loves his sister probably about as much as I do! :) That's a good thing.

Custom Order for Becky- Hair Clips Complete

Burning the candle at both ends these days- I finished these hair clips early this morning. I can't do much crafty work during the day because my attention is focused so much on my children- as it should be... but the night-time and early mornings have been my friend these days. I've had so many custom requests that I just can't turn down! I have a few more pieces to make to go with this order, and I'm hoping that will happen today during naptime so after naptime we can run them by the post office on our way to the park!

Seeing Birdies!

I'm making a bunch of these little stuffed fabric birdies as an etsy custom order for Connie. She is going to use them to create a mobile for her baby's nursery using this pattern from spool. I completely love the little birdies and love the mobile idea- and may do something like that for Ella's Secret Garden Nursery after the holidays!

Custom Order for Joni - sunnynole.etsy.com

This pillow was a custom Etsy order for Joni- it is for her 10 y/o son's room- his room is decorated in all vintage-american things. They recently took a trip to Washington, DC and this Abe and Son photo has a special meaning. This will be one of his Christmas gifts. She said he will be thrilled to have something so unique. I'm really pleased with the product and (hope) that she will send pictures after the holidays of it on his bed.

Maternity Photo Shoot

ranada, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

I did a maternity photo shoot today at Lake Ella and it was great fun... This is my favorite type of photo... a black and white background with one of the things in color- of course in this case, it had to be the blue ribbon, since she's having a boy! What a lovely Christmas Package she's going to get! I have all of her photos edited and ready to be put on a CD to be mailed to Georgia!!

Ella Kate

The doctor said she's going to be okay. Many of you didn't know, but Ella was born with a hole in her heart. We have had to wait three long months to find out what this meant, and if it meant surgery, or if it would close up and heal like nothing was ever wrong. Today, we learned that the hole in her heart has closed. As I shook the doctor's hand, and thanked him, tears of joy and relief fell down my face. We are overwhelmed with relief, happiness and thankfulness to God. What are we Thankful for this Holiday Season? Doctors. Healthy Children. Family. Friends. Love. God.

Field Trip

camden 027, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

We went on a field trip yesterday. Camden was in love with the school bus. He wanted me to take his picture of him on the bus. He sang "the wheels on the bus" and I think the driver was a little annoyed with us by this point... Camden had gotten on and off the bus ten BILLION times, exploring the territory! :) Note: We didn't RIDE in the bus, the kids did and we rode in our car. Camden had to be in a carseat, and there is no way he would be allowed to ride on the bus for liability reasons, but he did SIT on the bus... hehehe.

My Little Rag Doll., originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

A little old lady stopped me in the store yesterday to tell me that Ella is the sweetest looking baby she's seen in awhile. I was carrying her in her sling and she was wearing this floppy hat and my favorite knit sweater of hers. I agree with the little old lady, don't you?

New Easel

New Easel, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

This is Camden, enjoying his new Melissa and Doug Easel! He had a great time last night drawing on the dry erase side and erasing. He just loves erasing. It's so cute. :) The roll of paper that I bought ended up being too big for the length of the board, so I'll be taking that back, and we'll have to find the right size! The other side is a chalk board and Camden was happy to learn that his sidewalk chalks work great on that side. I haven't been bold enough to get him any paint yet, but we may do that. I know Melissa and Doug have some spill proof paint cups that we just may have to get if we decide to let him paint on it! For now I know he's content with the markers and chalk :).

Teaching the Art of Giving

Around this time of year, I am usually working with my students to pack boxes for Operation Christmas Child. It's an event that happens every November, and in my mind, is a great way to gear up for the Holidays. Start the Holidays by giving with your whole heart.

If you don't know much about Operation Christmas Child, go here to learn more. I encourage you to pack a box and pray for a child in need.

It's easy to explain to Middle Schoolers where these boxes are going and why we have to pack them, but it was very difficult to explain to a 2 1/2 year old. We looked at the map and I told him that our box would either be going to Africa or South America. He looked at me and said "I live in America". I said "yes, honey, that's right". So, in trying to explain to him that there are other countries in this world, I showed him photos of other little boys that this box may be going to.

The heart of a 2 1/2 year old is huge. They are really loving, caring, giving beings. My son, the one that doesn't listen very well, and is always running and jumping and whining and crying and yelling and getting put in time out A LOT of times during the day- in this moment, was a different child. He really tried to understand what we were doing. He wanted to send more toys. He couldn't understand how this boy that we were packing for didn't have any toys or soap or toothpaste, etc. He asked a lot of questions. It was incredibly sweet. He wanted to give away all of his toys. My heart melted.

This was an incredible 15 minutes out of my day today- Hopefully this post will inspire you to pack a box.

Happy Holidays!

In an effort to get our Christmas Cards done early, I was determined to get a Christmas photo shoot underway! Gee had bought Cammy a nice red and white striped shirt awhile back, which I knew would be perfect for his Christmas pictures. I had to find a Christmas dress for Ella, and I found the most perfect one!! (It's an April Cornell and I got it at an awesome price!) So, all I had to do was take the picture. We took a trillion photos, and finally got a good one! Seriously, it was tough to get an almost three year old to "smile, but not too big", and a three month old to "look at the camera and smile"...LOL. WE FINALLY GOT IT!

Computer Trouble

We've had some computer trouble - a virus that just will NOT go away. We're just WAITING for the computer to NOT work anymore... and I'm concerned! However, if I can recommend ANYTHING, it's not only backing up your files, it's backing up your PICTURES! I can live without all the files... the "book" that I started writing and never got to, the million lesson plans that I have saved, etc. BUT MY PICTURES! Oh, man, I would be so upset if I lost all of them, because many of them I haven't printed yet. I have been really good about loading them to flickr, though. I have a ton of pictures on flickr, and a lot of them are set to "private" so you probably don't even know that they are on there... the ones that you see are only about 1/4th of the pictures that are on there! So, if I can recommend anything to you today, I recommend that you get a service like Flickr and pay for it. For $24 a year, it's SO worth it to me to know that all of my photos (my prized possessions) are safely stored on SOMEONE ELSES server! :) And that's my business plug for today!

Chicken Pot Pie, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

My friend Kacy gave me this recipe. Let me tell you what, this was good. So good that we all ate it the next day for lunch and there was not a drop left. In fact, I didn't even have to wash the dish, it was so clean. Haha, just kidding. It was great though. It was simple, and my boys LOVED it... We're surely going to make this again, and again!

Kacy calls this: Super quick, easy & cheap Chicken Pot Pie (I think we need to add GREAT in there somewhere...)

Ingredients:
-1 can cream of chicken soup
-1-2 cups cut-up chicken breasts
-Bag of frozen mixed veggies
-1/2 cup milk
-Salt and pepper to taste
-Pie crust (just buy the 2-pack Publix brand in the freezer section. Less than $2 for 2!)

Directions:
-Preheat oven to 350
-cut up chicken breasts and cook
-Mix soup, chicken, veggies, milk, salt & pepper together and put into pie pan
-Place thawed pie crust on top and cut a few slits in the top
-Bake in the oven according to the pie crust directions

A new look.

My etsy shop has a new look. Go check it out.

And in the morning... I'm making WAFFLES!

homemade waffles, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

Camden LOVES waffles. The other morning, he asked for waffles like Gee makes. Gee has a big belgian waffle maker and is known for making good waffles. So, I pulled out my waffle maker, which is never in use, and decided to make a double batch of waffles, some for Camden to eat then and some to freeze so he could have homemade waffles whenever he wants. (They are a million times better than Eggos!)

Here's the quick and easy recipe:

1 3/4 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. sugar
2 lg. eggs, divided
1 1/4 c. milk
4 tbsp. melted butter (I use "I can't believe it's not butter")

Sift dry ingredients. Crack eggs and divide. Add egg yolks to sifted mixture. Melt butter, add to sifted mixture. Beat thoroughly. Take egg yolks and beat until stiff. Fold into mixture gently.

Pour onto preheated waffle iron, close, and wait for steam. (I spray mine with Pam each time I make a new waffle so they come off very easily, I learned that from my mom too.)

We enjoyed the waffles and I froze about two dozen of them in large freezer bags. From there, I just pop one or two into the toaster (just like an eggo)... and voila! Freshly baked waffles whenever you'd like!

Leaving a Legacy.

We attended a family reunion this weekend. Food, fun and family, what more can you ask for? How about this: My aunt took our grandmother's recipe box and photocopied all of the recipes in it and made a book for each family member. I was so excited to get this. Most of the recipes are in her own handwriting. I. Love. This. This will be a book that I'll treasure for sure! What a legacy.

They stole my mom's invention. The tie chair? Yes, that was invented a long time ago, it's called a bedsheet, and my mom tied many a-kids into our dining room chairs to eat when there was not a high chair there to use. If only we had come up with the clever name "Tie-Chair" sounds so much better than "get a sheet!"...lol and of course, they came up with the coolest description for the thing:

The Tie Chair™ is a portable, washable high chair that works just about anywhere, and the best part is that it folds up and fits right in your diaper bag. For added security, the ties are long enough to wrap around again in the back. (ahem, yes, of course it's long enough, it's a SHEET)...

The Tie Chair™ is all fabric (really? a sheet? all fabric? nawwww....), with no hard plastic or metal buckles. (thank goodness, wouldn't want to be sleeping on those!) You can safely secure your child without them feeling detained. (detained? Who worded this thing? LOL!!) There are so many places parents take their children where they do not have high chairs available. Friends houses, family members' houses, and some restaurants often do not have this convenience. (friends houses and families houses probably have a bedsheet!!!.. and if a restaurant doesn't have a high chair I think I'm at the wrong restaurant if I have my kid....) This is why the Tie Chair™ was created - to make a Mother's life simpler. The Tie Chair™ fits most dining chairs,(we hope) and can be used as soon as children are able to sit up on their own. This is so good for going to restaurants and places - just roll up your tie chair in your bag and you have a portable chair restraint (that won't make your child feel detained...LOL) wherever you go! (or just bring along your own sheet...) but for $49.00 plus shipping you can have a designer one that probably won't even work as good as just a simple bedsheet!

Today's activities.. :), originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

We are still learning about cows this week! Today we went over our vocabulary word CALF. We learned that cows live on a farm, and we made our own farm out of play dough, complete with beautiful flowers and trees and plenty of grass for the cows to eat. We also learned that cows eat grains like we do (I equated it to cereal...) so we made cheerios necklaces. Then, we went to see Wall-E... which doesn't really fit our theme, but hey, it was at the $1 theater and Camden had been asking to see it! ;0) All in all, a great day. :)

God Made Everything

So, today during lunch, I was reading to Camden from his new toddler bible while he ate his chicken nuggets. After the story, we were talking about God and how he made EVERYTHING. Camden began repeating what we had learned and was telling me... God made the trees, and the sun, and the moon, and the stars... but MOMMY made my chicken nuggets today! hehehe!

Newfound Glory

Staying at home all day with kids is easy. I keep my house spotless with ease, I sip coffee and watch Regis & Kelly, then Martha, then Price is Right while leisurely folding laundry and giggling with my children as they todder by. The house looks good, smells good, and everyone is smiling and happy. There are fresh baked brownies in the oven for afternoon snack. My kids are happily working on educational activities. The birds are singing, the children are laughing (while learning..) and soft classical music is playing in the background...

AND THEN I WOKE UP!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously. I used to think that the life of a stay at home mom was like the little dream that I just re-created above. Peachy-keen.

In fact, when I worked, I would often wish to stay home so I'd have more time for my kids and household chores - but who knew that staying home actually creates MORE chores? MORE things to clean up and more people to clean up after? It does.

And the two-year-old in the picture above? Yeah. He's a lot of work. Much more work now that there's a baby in the picture. Today was his first offical day home with me and the baby, the offical end of my maternity leave and start of a stay-at-home mom gig for awhile. I sat down and created a schedule much like his at daycare - and factored in plenty of "teaching time". Our theme this week is cows... we're learning all about cows and the letter C. (I'm following a preschool curriculum... and for some reason, they start with cows...) I found a lot of cool COW books at the library that I've requested. Today, we learned that a baby cow is called a calf. ...and I tried singing some cool cow songs - but Cammy was quick to tell me that they were "silly" and that I'm not "Ms. Joni" (Ms. Joni was his music teacher at school.) Touche, little buddy.

From 8am until 5pm, it was all about Cammy today. Minus the two hour nap that he and Ella so graciously took. During that time, I was able to get some field trip work done for school, and the messes cleaned up in the kitchen and living room and I worked my way upstairs and got half of the upstairs cleaned when everyone woke up.

I'm determined to make this experience fun for Cammy, just like school is. I'm determined to teach him as much as I'm determined to teach my students. This morning he asked me if I was going to be his new teacher. It melted my heart. We did a lot today, and had fun. It was hard work. It was NOT easy. I didn't sit down but to feed Ella. I have a new respect for the stay-at-home-mom. Seriously, it's work. Possibly more work than real work.

Halloween2008 004, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

Our halloween started at Joe's office, where we got the kids dressed up and just hung out. Then, we came home for awhile and had dinner and got ready to go Trick or Treating. Camden completely enjoyed Trick or Treating. He especially loved knocking on people's doors and having LOOOONG conversations with them... explaining to them WHY he had to knock on their door (his words: "because, had to say trick or treat, and then, had to get some candy, and then... had to go to knock on your door and then say happy halloween.)... LOL. We were laughing our heads off at him... so cute. More pictures following this post.
