Royal Ripple - Test Swatches

Royal Ripple - Test Swatches

New project in progress. This one is sort of a secret knit. I have done a few test patterns so far and finally found one that I like.

This yarn, though, is amazing! 70% Baby Alpaca, 30% Silk.... The silk in this yarn reflects light like a prism while the soft and hollow alpaca fibers act like goose down, keeping you slightly warm without the weight. Baby alpaca is the softest, finest classification of alpaca, and the luxurious feel of this yarn against the skin is pure heaven!

This is going to make a LOVELY Royal Ripple! I do think, though, that I've underestimated my yarn usage. So, instead of 5 skeins, I think I'm going to need 10. Yikes! :)

The summer is approaching and I'm so glad that I'm going to be off. I had my year-end review today. A meeting that I lost sleep over because our administration this year has been very "business like and of few words"... so I really had no idea going into the meeting if it was going to go well. It went great and I got a great review, thank god... but I'm GLAD I'm about to be off for the next four and a half months. The stress from this year has taken its toll and I'm ready for a nice LONG break~!

On the homefront-- I took Cammy to the pool today. It was a disaster and we had to leave after about 30/minutes. He is not afraid of the water so just walked right up and jumped in. Which totally freaked me out. I need to permanetly sew (or knit) swimmies onto his arms for the remainder of the summer until we can get this boy some swim lessons! (Which I plan to do real soon.)

Ok, I'm going to rest now... Joe laid down with Camden at 8 and they are both asleep now. It's near 11 and I've just been knitting and watching the dumb stuff on TV. Time for bed now.

A photo of the finished Clapotis! Incidentally, I'm wearing it today. It was a little chilly this morning, and ALWAYS cold in my classroom.

I finished Ella's Upside Down Oopsy Daisy Hat. It came out pretty cute. Camden loves it and now wants a hat. I told him I would make him one when it gets colder. :)

We are having an early meal together before we have to get the boy this afternoon, so I'm excited about that.

It has been a great three years hon, and I love you with all of my <3!

My Boy

Taken with my camera phone. Not a perfect picture, but shows how much he has grown.

Promises to everyone for more photos this summer when I have more time!

I'm looking forward to doing some of the new baby girl when she arrives, too!

Whirlwind and Dryer Sheets

Today was a whirlwind day. My end of the year is "wrapping up" at school and so there are so many things to do, plan, and follow through with. Today was the 8th grade luncheon that I coordinate every year for our graduating 8th graders. Joe graciously volunteered to pick up the food for us and deliver it to the school, so that was a lot of stress off of me. The luncheon went very smoothly, however, I'm glad to have it behind me. It seems to be such an "easy" thing, but really, takes a lot of work to coordinate!

Joe had two games tonight so I have the boy by myself. We had a nice dinner, played a bit and then went up and took our baths. Once we were done, I told Camden that I was going to go switch over the laundry and then we could read stories before bedtime. Little did I know that I would spend the next 45 minutes in the laundry room- BECAUSE HE LOCKED ME IN THERE! I was so upset and that got him upset and he couldn't get the lock opened because he was so flustered! Then, after about 30 minutes, I told him to go get my phone. Luckily, I have one of the slimmest cell phones on the market, so he was able to get it and slide it under the door. I called and called and called people. I finally got my mom in Fort Lauderdale. She was able to calm me down and help me get Camden calm and he ended up unlocking the door! We met each other in a sweaty tear-stained embrace, and THAT was the BEST hug that I've had all WEEK!

Whew! Now... off to watch American Idol! (Now that I'm out of Laundry Hell!)

Ravelry Update.. New Project and Clapotis Photos Coming Soon!

I bought this yarn at Wooly Bully in Tallahassee over a year and a half ago. I have knitted and frogged it three times already. It was going to be a scarf, then, fetchings, and now, i’ve finally got the perfect project. I am using the book “Itty Bitty Hats” and the pattern “Upside Down Daisy”… I think it will be an adoreable hat for Ella. I cast on because I am having problems with another pattern and until I can get some help, I need a project for the “in-between” time.

Clapotis photos coming soon. I have the flu right now so I haven't been in the mood to have photos of myself taken. I have been wearing the clapotis around the house though. I can't say that my husband thinks it's the sexiest thing I've ever worn...LOL... looks "grandmaish" he says... but I LOVE it. So comfy!

Blocking the Clapotis

Blocking the Clapotis
Originally uploaded by SunnyNole.
Today I finished the clapotis... that means that the next step was blocking! This was my first time with blocking. I started with the spray-bottle spritz method and decided to do full water immersion. I was a little freaking out once I got it immersed in the water and then spread out at how much it G R E W! It certainly stretched larger than it would have had I just spritzed it... or left it unblocked... but I needed to see the STRAIGHT lines in the ladders. I was not okay with them being scrunchy, although I liked the photos on knitty.com of the scrunchy one... I for some reason needed to see the straight yarn lines. -- So... now all I have to do is weave in the loose ends once it dries!

In other news, my iPod has officially died. I've tried random trouble shooting and nothing is working. This isn't good with the summer approaching, but oh well. If I can't get it to work I'll have to use Joe's until I can get another one. Maybe it just needs a good charge. We will see.

Joe and Camden spent the majority of the day in the yard. I did some stuff for my dad at his rental property and then had to do the family errands-- Target, Publix, Library. Nothing too exciting.

I AM excited about the completion of this knitting project though, and I'm ready to get started on my next project, which will be a secret because it's for someone. Those of you at Ravelry will get to see it in progress, but I won't share it here for awhile.

Well I'm off to my bubble bath and then I'm going to weave in the ends of the clapotis so I can wear it around the house tonight. :)

I’m bookin’ on this ya’ll. I’m now almost done with the 3rd section, which is the longest section. So… my goal is to have this done by the time the school year is over. I have three more weeks. I know I have less time to knit during the week, especially at the end of the school year with so many things going on… but I’m going to try to get it done!

Hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day! My boys spent the day in the yard and I spent the day resting. Field trip to the Holocaust Museum tomorrow... gotta be at school at 5.30am, and we won't get back 'til 10pm or so, so today I had to get Camden's teacher's teacher appreciation gift wrapped and ready for delivery on Monday, and three dozen cookies baked for delivery on Tuesday-- since I know I won't be up to it tomorrow when I get back from the field trip! :0

He's Holding my Knitting

He's Holding my Knitting, originally uploaded by SunnyNole.

The clapotis in progress (proun. Clap-o-TEE). Cammy is holding it up on my new Denise needles. Love them. Love this project. Note, this view of the project is before any of the drop-stitches to form the ladders were made. It looks like a simple large knitted piece right now...

My update from today on Ravelry.com:
May 7, 2008 - Update
I’ve been knitting on this so much I’m now half way through section three. I’m excited… but I do have to say, that my wrist is KILLING me. :)

I plan to take this to the hospital with me when I have Ella. To bundle up with for comfort. I’m having to have a C-Section so I’ll be there for awhile and will be glad to have something to bundle with, even if it’s 95 degrees outside, the hospital is ALWAYS cold. Especially after surgery. So, I've named this "The Comfort Clapotis".... (Clap-O-TEE ya'll)

Big Belly Shot, 6-months pregnant with Ella

May I indulge myself for a moment? Ignore the nipsles... it was hard enough to take this one myself.

Anniversary Approaching and A Whole Lotta Knittin' Going On...

Joe and Jessica :) edited
Originally uploaded by SunnyNole.
Our 3 year anniversary is approaching. I edited this photo last week and gave it to Joe in a frame for his desk. Just because. He bought me some adoreable silver stack rings that say faith and hope. Just because. (Well I guess they were for our anniversary, but I have them already!).... We are planning a little trip for our anniversary, but are not sure where to go yet. We have to take the boy with us, so it can't be anywhere terribly romantic... haha!

I've been super busy knitting my clapotis from knitty.com. I chose lorna's laces in vera... it's SO beautiful so far, and I don't want to stop knitting it. I took care of my motherly and wifely duties this weekend, and all the rest of the time I spent watching movies and knitting. The laundry is all done, my boys got great home-cooked meals and freshly baked cookies. Camden has been sick, so we've been dealing with that too... but all my "in between" time has been spent on this shawl. I'm super excited about it and can't wait to finish.

I finally bought a Denise kit (pink, of course!) and LOVE it... it was my mother's day gift. :)

SO... lots of jumping around on the creative front... haven't drawn or blogged or even taken any photos... but I have been knitting.

My husband is questioning the shawl. Maybe having a little fun with the fact that I'm making a shawl.... but it's not just a shawl, it's a clapotis, so it can be a scarf too!

At any rate, here's the capital update... now... guess where I'm off to? Yes.... knitpicks.com and then to do more knitting and TV watching.
